“Ain’t that the truth,” Zarmilla grumbled, crossing her arms. “I’m sick of being cooped up in there. But I think we could probably take this dude if we worked together. Maybe at least wait till we’ve accepted his hospitality though, just to be courteous.”

“I, uhh...” Zarmilla trailed off as Clive mentioned Vera. “No, it’s alright. It just feels real bad, but I guess I haven’t really stopped to think about it. Things have been going so fast...

“I guess I’m just hoping I can outpace it all if I just keep running. Cause sometimes when it gets real quiet, my mind goes back to hearing her parent’s voices on the other line. They sounded awful concerned...That’s what gets me all messed up.”

"I thought it'd feel better, to be honest. I guess the reality of heading right back to prison isn't too exciting." Clive sighs and chuckles slightly.

"I appreciate the freedom, though, certainly. I think I should thank Cake later..."

"Oh, how about you? Are you doing alright after... Well, y'know, what happened to Vera... If you don't want to talk about it, I'd understand."

While the group was hanging out in Gilbert’s mansion debating their sleeping arrangements, Zarmilla approaches Clive.

“So? How’s it feel to finally be free of that atrocious game?” she asked, stretching and sighing with relief. “Compared to all those screwed up experiments, arguing with baldy here ought to be a cakewalk.”

"Hey, whenever you're ready." Clive smiles.

"You know, in some twisted way, this whole game... Has probably been pretty good for me. In a lot of ways it's been terrible, but... It's at least more interesting than rotting away in a cell for the rest of my life.."

"Enough of that, though! If there's anything else you need, or something I can do, be sure to let me know, alright?"

“Well that was no problem at all,” Zarmilla replied, smiling. “I’m glad it seems like things are going a bit better for you. Ain’t it funny how life can change sometimes?”

“I’m glad I was helpful in making that happen too. Now if only I could just lose this weird exterior...It still just don’t feel quite feel like the time yet.”

"What if that's what I thanked you for?" Clive blurted out randomly. "That, and uh, helping take care of me..."

"Other than needing to keep eyes on the back of my head around some people, everything's been alright. It's been easier to make friends, at the very least. Don't think I would've gotten out of that shell without you, though..."

“Oh, maybe a couple people have mentioned it,” Zarmilla replied, “I’m more curious what people have been saying about you. You ain’t exactly bad looking yourself! Well, if you ignore all the bandages at least.”

Zarmilla stepped over to her bed and sat down. She smiled at Rover’s thanks but looked off to the side.

“I’ll admit I ain’t really sure what I did that’s worth thanking...but you’re welcome. I’d like to thank you too though, if only just for being here.”

"I can finally breathe easy, for one." He lets out half of a chuckle. "Other than that, it's certainly been a nice change of pace."

"How about that hair? Any more compliments given on that?"

"Oh, and I don't think I've properly thanked you yet... So, thank you." Clive awkwardly looks down to his side, clearly embarrassed a little.

—————————————

After the group embarked on the submarine, Zarmilla found Clive recuperating in their bunkhouse.

“Hello, Clive. Feels like we ain’t talked in a while. How’s the new mask-free life treating ya?”

"You got that right." Rover cheers her on, and continues swinging along the ropes or whatever.

((Down to skip ahead, yeah. We can just chat on the submarine since it doesn't look like we got much else going on here. Fine with me, though.))

“Yeah, you’re right,” Zarmilla said, glancing behind her. “I mean, we made a bunch of progress on this course, didn’t we? I’m sure we can handle whatever comes our way!”

((You ready to timeskip? I’m not really sure what to do though, like it’s just a submarine lol. I guess we could just talk since a lot happened with Clive’s face or whatever))

"...Me either." Rover nods in agreement. "I don't want either of us to die here."

"I know it's hard to be sure, but... I have some hope. I think we can do it. We just gotta believe, right? Yeah... We have each other's backs. We'll be fine."

“Ooh, now you’re talking,” Zarmilla replied, “Always good to have something to look forward to, even if it’s just getting plastered. Been years since I’ve properly been out though. I’ve been cooped up for so long, even just being on this course feels totally new to me.”

She stared thoughtfully across the scenery of the course.

“Geez...I really hope I don’t die here.”

"Hey, that's a pretty damn good start!" Rover laughs and cautiously sits on the ledge of whatever platform they were on. "Nothing wrong with not knowing yet, either."

"Late night drinks are something I've been used to, and it sure as hell never felt better with some buddies from work after a hard night... We should go together, if you'd have me."

"...Also assuming we get the hell out of here."

“Only if you think it’d be a good fit for you,” she replied.

“Anywho, yeah I don’t plan on darkening the door of their place,” Zarmilla replied, dangling limply from the rope and kicking her feet aimlessly. “Right now, I’m thinking what I really wanna do is go get drink my weight in whiskey and...”

She paused for a moment.

“Err, that’s all I’m coming up with honestly.”

"Should I put on a collar too?" Rover chuckles.

"First thing I'd do... Hmm... I think I'd probably want to see my family again, if they'd be interested in that. If they're... Uh, still alive, I guess." Rover lets out a sigh. "I don't know if they'd have much interest in seeing me again, but who knows. Heh."

"I'm gonna assume you'd do pretty much none of that yourself, though."
