(don’t mind me, just replying 22 days later aaaa)

“It’s... fine,” Myles said, though he did grimace a bit. “It’s a painful memory, but, well... I figured that I may as well tell someone the truth at some point. I would... probably still be on my spree too, had my father not caught me. ... In the end, I destroyed... practically all of my relationships. Only person that came and saw me was my mother, and even then, it was only an occasional visit. Adriel probably wouldn’t approve of what I did either, but...”

He bit his tongue and sighed.

“Sorry. I... got a bit carried away there. Why don’t we, ah, try and change the subject to something... different?”

"... oh. Right." Vera looks rather speechless, pulling on her jeans' pockets. Probably too hard of an answer for her. "I... guess I shouldn't have asked that. Maybe. If you don't like talking about it. But, I mean... I don't know how to feel about that, if you ask me. It's probably deserved, but..."

She gives a longing shrug. "Sorry."

(Hey same lol. No worries, sorry for the delay)

Myles nodded in understanding. At her question, though, his expression darkened, and he turned away.

“... It’s... not a memory I like to revisit. To make a long story short, my girlfriend, fiancée, she... died. She was murdered. ... With our child in her womb as well. I hunted down the person that killed her and... well, lost my temper after he revealed just why he killed her, so to speak, and... did him in. After that, I... I couldn’t turn myself in, but if I could STOP people like that from hurting those who didn’t deserve it... maybe I’d somehow make the world a better place. So... I started doing that. Going after those who knowingly preyed on the innocent and helpless. Though instead of turning them in, I acted as judge, jury, and if they deserved it, executioner.”

((Uh oh. I got hit by a sudden wave of burnout and had no energy to post. Sorry.))

Vera bites her lip, shaking her head. "Just... curiosity, really. I mean... maybe these past few days made me realize a few things. Chief among them, that maybe people are a little less privileged than I was." She says. It's evidently a hard sentence to push out.

She then takes a deep breath. "What happened on that day?"

"I am genuine in my words. I'm glad that you, well, believe me," Myles replied. At her question, he raised a brow, clearly a bit perplexed.

"That's an... interesting question. Most of the time, I felt like I was doing a lot of things right. I consistently got good grades, I was a well-renowned private investigator, I had a girlfriend... I had a figure. But one bad day ruined that, and I continued down that path. So... at a point, I started doing everything wrong -- when I chose to start killing. I still stand by my actions, stopping them all permanently, but... the fact that it affected so many people close to me is what really pains me."

He let out a quiet, morose sigh.

"What makes you ask that?"

Vera drops her usual nonchalant nodding and, instead, listens intently. At the end she gives a slight smile. "I get what you're saying. And I think you're genuine, at the very least."

She bites her lip for a few seconds before deciding to ask a certain question. "Have you... ever felt like you've been doing everything wrong for your entire life?"

Myles let out a small sigh and shook his head.

"I don't think it was because anyone WANTED to kill you, Preston, Alfred, and Carmilla, it was just because of Florsy's antidote and only her being able to manufacture it... ugh, and even then, it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The fact we had to make such a choice in the first place sickens me. ... And by the way, don't... beat yourself up or anything about thinking the poisonous herbs were just regular spices. There wasn't any way you could've known."

He shrugged in response to her question.

"I'm... okay, I suppose, but only because I didn't have it quite as hard as you or the others. Still, though, the fact that we had to choose who to kill, which side was more practical to keep around... it's disgusting, really. And I... I'm sorry that you went through that. I know my words are probably hollow, but... yeah. Whoever's running this damned game is gonna have a lot to answer for if we're able to turn the tables on them..."

"Fair." Vera says, observing he ball magically go through with a smirk.

It gets wiped off her face as he asks how she's doing, though. It turns into a frown. "I..." Struggling to find words, she sighs. "I don't know. Everyone was so eager to just... kill me last game. And it hurt. A lot. It's... hard to explain, what I feel." She stops suddenly, as if particularly challenged to say the following bits. "How about you? Not that you had it hard, or anything."
05:41 AM ET (US)
Myles narrowed his eyes at the ball, staring it down for a good few moments before deciding to just roll it past the windmill using his hand as opposed to the club. Miraculously, it managed to get through this time.

“I appreciate the offer, but I think I’d rather try my hand at the next hole after being stuck on this one for so long.”

He sighed and looked over toward Vera, resting the club on his shoulder.

“Look, uh... I’m... not good at stuff like this, but... how are you holding up? What with... well, everything that happened recently.”

"Do you want some advice with that, or are you giving up?" Vera asks, stepping to the side, "I've done some golf. It gets boring at our mansion if I don't keep myself busy."

Myles was so focused on trying to get the ball to move past his new mortal enemy that he didn’t notice Vera walk in and watch him play. He continued to go at it for a good few more minutes, and had it not been for her clearing her throat, it was clear that he wasn’t going to back down from this anytime soon.

“Oh, uh, yes,” he replied, turning to Vera. “Damned thing moves too fast for me to get the ball past it no matter when or how hard I hit it. ... I’m tempted to just carry the ball over to the next hole, honestly.”

Vera was talking a walk. A pretty somber one, judging by the slowness and heaviness of her footsteps, and from how she was staring at the ground with her hands in her pockets. Perhaps it was boredom, perhaps sadness.

Happening upon the golf course, she peeks in and spots a familiar face and watches them play for a few minutes. Clearing her throat, she decides to eventually approach. "Hey. Having trouble there?"

(Gotcha. And yeah lol it’s a pain. I should be better off this week though thankfully)

In the golf course, Myles had decided to occupy himself for a while by shooting, or, well, putting, balls into holes. He was able to get past various obstacles with ease, often taking a long time lining up the trajectory of each shot, and timing it so it wouldn’t get hit by an object. He was putting way too much thought into this.

By the tenth hole or so, however, there was an obstacle he couldn’t quite get by—a fast-moving windmill that showed no signs of slowing down. No matter how he hit it, the ball was always just smacked aside and back at square one. He had been at this for a while now.

“... This is rigged.”

((You can do it this time around, and don't worry about it, I know that feeling.))

(Sure lol. And sorry for the lack of posts recently, life has been hella busy. In any case, would you like to set the scene or should I?)

((I'm thinking this would probably be more interesting if we timeskipped forward past the elimination match?))
